Day 1

Depart 6 AM. Rest and meal stops en route on own. Welcome to Vacationland! Travel to Portland, Maine’s largest city-by-the-sea and check in to your hotel for a one night stay. Dinner included at the hotel this evening.

Day 2

After an included full breakfast, you’ll travel to Bangor, Maine. In Bangor, you’ll have lunch on your own before continuing to Calais. In Calais you’ll cross the border into the Canadian province of New Brunswick. Passports or passcards will be needed for this tour to Canada. Travel to your hotel on the outskirts of Saint John, NB where you will meet your full-time, kilted tour director, who will stay with you throughout the Canadian portion of your tour. Enjoy a tour of the Loyalist City, including a stop at the Reversing Falls Skywalk. Then an included dinner at a local restaurant this evening before retiring for the evening.

Day 3

Enjoy a breakfast at your hotel this morning before you depart Saint John to Prince Edward Island. Today see one of the Marine Wonders of the World, an amazing region powered by the highest tides in the world. You’ll travel through Fundy National Park to Hopewell Rocks to see where the tides have gouged four-story flower pot sculptures from the cliffs. At low tide, you can walk along the ocean floor and walk under arches created by the towering rock formations. In the afternoon you’ll depart for Prince Edward Island (PEI) crossing over the world-famous Confederation Bridge,
the longest continuous multi-span bridge in the world. Here you’ll enjoy a brief tour of Charlottetown! A traditional Prince Edward Island (PEI) lobster supper is included this evening. Tasty chowder or soup, delicious locally cultivated mussels, salad and homemade rolls accompany a one-pound lobster (Alternative menu is available). And, if you still have room, treat yourself to a dazzling array of scrumptious desserts. You’ll stay in Charlottetown, PEI this evening.

Day 4

Breakfast is included this morning. An early start today takes you to 'Anne’s Land' where you’ll visit Green Gables, which became famous around the world as the inspiration for the setting in Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic tale of fiction 'Anne of Green Gables'. Next, you’ll see Prince Edward Island National Park, renowned for its white sand beaches, red sandstone cliffs and rolling dunes. Stop at one of the local beaches where you can dip your toes in the ocean if you wish. Head for Wood Islands where you’ll cross the warmest waters north of the Carolinas the Northumberland Strait via ferry. Drive past Truro and Antigonish to the Canso Causeway and cross into the “Scotland of North America, Cape Breton. Cape Breton’s most famous resident, Alexander Graham Bell, once said, "I have traveled around the globe. I have seen the Canadian and American Rockies, the Andes, the Alps and the Highlands of Scotland, but for simple beauty, Cape Breton outrivals them all." Check into your Baddeck Hotel, accommodations for a two-night stay. Dinner is included this evening.

Day 5

After an included breakfast, you will discover first-hand why Conde Nast magazine readers rated Cape Breton one of the top ten most beautiful islands in the world! Your first stop will be the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site where you discover his legacy from the humanitarian accomplishments to his gigantic kites, airplanes and a boat that flew. Next is the Acadian community of Cheticamp, well known for its 'hooked crafts' and Acadian culture. The Cabot Trail, named for explorer John Cabot, winds around the rocky splendor of Cape Breton’s northern shore,
ascending to the incredible plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Look offs offer unforgettable vista of Cape Breton’s rugged coastline so be sure to have your camera ready. You will travel through the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and have a box lunch included at a scenic beach picnic area. Return to your Baddeck Hotel. Dinner is included this evening.

Day 6

After an included breakfast, depart Baddeck this morning for the capital of Halifax, Nova Scotia. You’ll be treated to a brief tour of this historic port city that includes photo stop at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, a fortress perched on a hill overlooking the city and a stroll through the Halifax Public Gardens. Spend tonight at a hotel across the harbor in Dartmouth. This evening, enjoy a one-hour tour of Alexander Keith’s Brewery as it was in 1863 actors in period costume and character will show you everything there is to know about Keith’s India Pale Ale, bringing the great Brew master himself alive in song and story. You will have an opportunity to sample the beer before relaxing over dinner in a local Pub (this is a two course meal ( entree and dessert).

Day 7

Depart the hotel at 7:30am this morning for a full breakfast in Peggy’s Cove. This famous cove is a quaint fishing village where a graceful lighthouse sits atop the smooth wave-worn granite of the coast. The tiny harbor below the lighthouse is a masterpiece of seasoned fish sheds and colorful fishing boats, making it one of the most photographed places in Canada. Travel across the province to the Wolfville area, where you’ll stop to pick up lunch on your own and enjoy in the peaceful setting. (weather permitting) Travel through the beautiful Annapolis Valley, the fertile agricultural region dotted with farms and orchards, to the port of Digby, Nova Scotia, the scallop fishing capital of the world. Arrive at the Digby dock by 4:30pm for your 5:30 pm sailing aboard the Fundy Rose ferry to Saint John, New Brunswick. This is a 2 hour and 15 minute cruise. Dinner on own on board the Fundy Rose. Travel to your hotel.

Day 8

After your included breakfast, say farewell to your kilted tour director. Make your way back across the border to Calais, Maine. You’ll travel to Maine’s rocky coast to visit the International Island of Campobello, where FDR vacationed with his family, where you’ll be crossing the border again. Go back in history and tour the 34-room "cottage" occupied 1905-1921 by the Franklin D. Roosevelt family. A 15-minute film telling the story of Roosevelt's "beloved island" is shown at the visitor center. You’ll enjoy a boxed lunch here. Return to Maine and travel south through 'downeast Maine' to Bar Harbor. Cross the causeway to Mt. Desert Island where overnight at a hotel overlooking Frenchman’s Bay in Bar Harbor, Maine. This evening you’ll enjoy an included lobsterbake dinner in a casual setting overlooking Hulls Cove, near Bar Harbor. Your meal will be steamed in a large cooker where you can watch and ask questions about lobster fishing and lobster cooking. You'll want to bring your appetite and camera when the cover is lifted to reveal a colorful blend of lobsters, clams, potato and corn-on-the-cob amidst a cloud of steam. Grilled steak and baked haddock dinner options are also offered.

Day 9

Enjoy an included breakfast before you meet your local guide for a morning tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor has been celebrated for its breathtaking beauty ever since the island was discovered in 1604 by Samuel de Champlain, who named it "Isle de Monts Desert" (Mt. Desert Island) for its bare, desert-like mountaintops. In the first national park founded east of the Mississippi, you’ll see 9 mountains over 1000 feet high, stone bridges, lakes, ponds, trails and carriage roads. You will travel the entire Park Loop road with stops at Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole on Ocean Drive and Sieur De Mont Springs Wild Gardens of Acadia, plus learn about the rich and famous visitors who built summer cottages in Bar Harbor. You’ll have two hours to indulge in lunch on own in Bar Harbor, along with some shopping. Travel to Freeport, home to the L.L. Bean flagship store and a myriad of outlet shops and shops unique to Maine. Dinner included this evening at a local favorite. Continue south to check in to your hotel.
