Day 2

Enjoy Breakfast at the hotel before we begin a day of touring.
We’ll meet our step-on guide and depart for Vanderbilt Mansion. A guided tour will prove this magnificent home, is a superb example of Hyde Park elite class in the late nineteenth-century America.
Also you will enjoy a guided tour of the restored formal gardens of Vanderbilt Mansion. Next we will enjoy lunch at Coppola's Italian Restaurant before we have a self guided visit to the Beatrix Farrand- designed garden of Bellefield, Hyde Park. Beatrix Farrand was a landscape gardener whose work defined the American gardens throughout the first half of the 20th century. She is responsible for the birth of the mixed border that is standard in gardens today.
Save your energy as we are off to the Innisfree Garden for a guided tour. In the late 1920s, Walter Beck and his wife, Marion Burt Beck, began work on Innisfree, their country residence in Millbrook, NY. Walter’s fascination with Asian art influenced his ideas on garden design. In the 1930s, Beck discovered the work of 8th-century Chinese poet, painter and garden maker Wang Wei. Beck, like Wang, created carefully defined, inwardly focused gardens and Garden vignettes within a larger, naturalistic landscape.
This evening we’ll make a visit to the Walkway over the Hudson. This is a beautiful view over the Hudson River.
Dinner is included tonight at Shadows on the Hudson.

Day 3

Enjoy a hot breakfast at the hotel before we check out.
Upon arriving at Boscobel House & Gardens, we will enjoy a guided tour. Built between 1804 and 1808, it was originally the home of wealthy Loyalists. By the 1950s, after falling into disrepair, it was demolished. Preservationists saved as many architectural fragments as possible and reassembled them fifteen miles north, where the mansion was restored back to (and even beyond) its original grandeur. Boscobel was saved as a beautiful piece of art.
After an included lunch in Tarrytown we will travel to Untermyer Gardens in Yonkers for a guided tour. Untermyer Gardens is a 43-acre public garden, created in 1917 by Samuel and Minnie Untermyer, it combines exceptional horticulture, monumental architecture, and multicultural design in a majestic natural setting overlooking the Hudson River.
