Part of the greater Antarctica region, the South Shetland Islands hold a bounty of wildlife, scenic landscapes, hiking opportunities, and magnificent views that inspire a sense of discovery. According to sea and weather conditions, there are several possible shore landing opportunities. A possible landing on Elephant Island, named for the shape of its cliffside and the elephant seals that call it home, sets you on the same path as the famous Shackleton Expedition. Another possible landing is Deception Island, a volcanic caldera with heated springs and black sands. Other possible stops include Half Moon Island, Yankee Harbor, Point Wild, and Barrientos Island with its gentoo penguin rookeries.

The overall activity level of this tour is a level 4. This means you’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and half or full day hikes are things you may enjoy) and 10,000 steps a day is normal for you. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 3 hours covering 3+ miles at a steady clip) and activities that involve traversing uneven terrain, steep slopes, standing for periods of time, and varying altitudes and temperatures. You don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late nights, and full days. You can handle altitudes of 9,000 feet or higher with little to no issue.
This level is not appropriate for travelers who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance devices.
All conditions do not apply to all days so please read the itinerary carefully and speak to one of our Client Care Agents to determine if this tour is right for you. Transfers to/from the ship are by small Zodiac boats.
Landings are either "dry" or "wet", and you might have to wade ashore in shallow water. In some cases, the terrain can be a little strenuous. If you require any special assistance while on tour, please make us aware at the time of reservation so the necessary request form can be sent to your attention. Order of sightseeing on board the ship may vary based on departure and weather conditions and is at the sole discretion of the cruise line. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. Special clothing is required for shore landings. Please refer to your predeparture documents for important details.
Travelers will receive a complimentary parka for use during landings. Rubber boots and other cold weather gear can be purchased or rented through our gear partner, Ship-to-Shore, at your own expense.
This tour is operated by Atlas Ocean Voyages and will have Atlas representatives accompanying you throughout the program. This program is not Collette exclusive and a Collette Tour Manager will not be accompanying you.

Your expedition ship has a capacity of 198 travelers. Therefore, you will be onboard with other travelers outside of Collette.
Single accommodations are limited and are available on a first-come, firstserved basis. Single rate subject to change based on availability.
Triple accommodations are not available.
Expedition ships have a limited quantity of cabins available in each cabin category. We will make every effort to accommodate your cabin category preference at the time of booking. If the cabin category preferred is not available, the next closest category available will be offered and a surcharge may apply. To complete your tour, we include round-trip airport-to-hotel transfers when purchasing our airfare with your tour.
If you have arranged for your own air, we are pleased to provide you the option of purchasing these transfers. Please note that all transfers will leave at pre-scheduled times. For air-inclusive reservations, the name provided at time of booking must match your government-issued ID that will be used during travel. Name changes are subject to penalties. Please be advised, many airlines do not provide advance seat assignments until check-in at the airport. Advance seating will be subject to the airline's terms and conditions.
*Return flights should not be booked prior to 8:00 p.m. Internal flights are required for this tour and are included in the final price quoted at the time of booking.
Prior to full payment for the tour, the cruise line reserves the right to impose a supplemental fuel charge. Should this occur, you will be notified of the additional charges. Park fees and permits are included in the land cost of your tour. Taxes and fees starting from $495 USD per person (subject to change without advance notice), quoted at time of booking, are payable at time of final payment. Onboard gratuities and alcohol (except super-premium brands) are included in the price of your tour. Economy air rate and schedule are applicable for groups of 10 or more traveling on the same flights and dates.
Travel Requirements: Passports are required for this tour at your expense. Certain countries require that your passport be valid at least 6 months beyond the dates of your travel. You are strongly urged to contact the appropriate consulate for details. Visit www.travel.state.gov for the U.S. State Department for the latest details about passports and visa requirements.
IMPORTANT: We recommend that travelers take a photocopy of their passport and applicable visas. It should be packed separately from your actual passport and visa. We also recommend leaving a copy at home with your emergency contact. Collette will provide all necessary information, updates, and supporting documents for your travel requirements, including visa and Electronic Travel Authorizations (ETAs), if required, approximately 60-90 days prior to your departure. All non-resident travelers visiting Argentina are required to present valid health insurance for entry. Insurance must cover the entire duration of your stay and provide benefits for medical care, hospitalization, emergency assistance, and repatriation or medical evacuation. You will need to present proof of this medical insurance at the point of entry to avoid denial of boarding or entry. If you have purchased our Travel Protection Plan, your coverage meets this requirement.
A non-refundable deposit of $898 per person is due upon reservation. A second deposit of $1,000 per person is due by July 27, 2027 Reservations are made on a first come, first served basis. Final payment due by September 25, 2027.
